Thirty Two Signs Honey Badger of the Week Award: Mike Stefanik

The Groundhog may still be in hiding, but the Honey Badger is ready to come out to play.

And NASCAR’s Battle at the Beach earlier this week at Daytona International Speedway was like a harvesting ground of Honey Badger candidates.

So many candidates, and just one award. Kyle Larson? Eric Goodale? Gray Gaulding?

Let’s be honest, all quality candidates, but one little Honey Badger stood out quite a bit more than the rest.

And so it is we kick off the first Thirty Two Signs Honey Badger of the Week Award going to seven time Whelen Modified Tour champion Mike Stefanik.

Thanks to Randall and his glorious YouTube classic, we all know this, “Honey Badger don’t care.”

According to Randall: “The honey badger has been referred to by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most fearless animal in all of the animal kingdom.”

So we know the Honey Badger: “Just takes what he wants. He has no regard for any other animal whatsoever.”

And therein lies the gist of the Honey Badger of the Week Award.

Honey Badger don’t care and nobody epitomized that more last week than Stefanik when he showed Speed reporter Ray Dunlap, on live TV, that maybe a little more cool down time was needed after he had been unceremoniously dumped out of the lead on the final lap of the Whelen Modified Tour event at the Battle at the Beach.

As Randall says: “The Honey Badger is really pretty badass. It has no regard for any other animal whatsoever.” and clearly Dunlap learned that lesson when he sauntered up on a steaming Stefanik.

The look on Stefanik’s face said it all as Dunlap began yapping away, and we all know what happened next. If you don’t know check out the video below.

While in the end the Modified Tour race may have turned out to be a forgettable nightmare, Stefanik gained cult hero/internet sensation status immediately with his interview. He was featured the next day on the home page of the extremely popular sports website Deadspin.com and his name was popping up on topics running the gamut on Twitter days after the event.

We offer big Kudos to Mike Stefanik for not sugar coating the message or playing PR darling to Dunlap’s annoying ‘Aw shucks, too bad you go wrecked” attitude. Stefanik was the real deal right there, not much more you could ask for. In the truest sense ever, Honey Badger style.

  1. Bill Corcoran says

When I saw that interview only minutes after being "dumped" by Steve Park, I said to myself, this should be good. Mike was obviously VERY upset. I know the media has a job to do, but they get right into these driver's faces right after they race their hearts out. It's like they "ENJOY" tormenting these guys. Good for you Mike Stefanik, BTW what was so terrible about his language anyway?

  2. Im a HUGE Stefanik fan now! Thats passion, thats spirit, and the fire of a 20 year old, not a 54 year old. I love it! Mike will be a Serious competitive force on the tour for Many years tp come!

  3. Shawn – see if you can if you can get Randall to dub an audio version every time you name a honey Badger winner.

    Can't you just hear it?

"Mike Stefanik is really pretty badass."

"Mike Stefanik just say what he wants. He has no regard for live TV broadcasts whatsoever."

    You rock, Mike!
