After eight seasons in competition at Thompson International Speedway, the Thompson Modified division will be eliminated for the 2013 season.

Jonathan Hoenig, director of business development and marketing at the track, confirmed Wednesday that Thompson Modified teams have all been informed that the division will not be returning.

The Thompson Modified was one the weekly divisions at the track that has struggled mightily in the last few seasons to attract cars.

The reality was, the division was never able to establish a strong foothold at the track since it’s introduction to competition at the facility in 2005.

Last year the division normally attracted 5-6 cars for weekly events. One event saw an eight-car field, which proved to be a season-high.

John Lowinski-Loh Jr. of Milford, Mass. won 10 of 19 events in the division last year.

  1. Sorry to hear the TIS division will be discontinued. I enjoyed spotting the #9 for years so I hope Brian's racing career continues in a different direction.
